BRICS Summit: When India’s voice is raised on global platforms, the whole country is filled with pride. One such historic moment was when Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Brazil. This summit concluded on 6 July 2025 in the major city of Brazil, where the world’s major emerging economies Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa gathered on one platform. This time the ideas given by India had a profound impact towards global peace, security and development.

During the conference, PM Modi gave his powerful speech on the topic “Peace and Security and Reform of Global Governance”, in which he strongly put forward his point on important issues like terrorism, global double standards and the role of developing countries. He said in clear words that the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam is a direct attack on the soul, identity and dignity of India. This statement not only highlights India’s security concerns, but also appeals to the whole world to stand united against terrorism.

Message of solidarity against terrorism

Prime Minister Modi said that now the time has come when global efforts against terrorism need to be strengthened further. He reminded the world leaders that as long as double standards are adopted against terror, the dream of global peace will remain incomplete. India has always criticized every form of terrorism, and the same tough stand was reiterated from this platform.

Demand for justice for the Global South

At the conference, Prime Minister Modi also said that the Global South (developing countries) often has to face double standards even today. He demanded to end this imbalance and give more space to developing countries in international policy making. His view that there is a need to reform the global governance structure was also clearly visible in the BRICS Declaration, which gave place to India’s concerns.

PM Modi also met Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez during the BRICS summit. In this meeting, the two leaders discussed promoting cooperation in areas such as medicines, biotechnology, traditional medicine. Especially India’s digital strength, such as UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and the plan to spread traditional medical practices like Ayurveda globally, were also discussed positively.

Apart from this, it was also agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas like disaster management and capacity building. This shows that India is now not only a trading power but is also becoming a global partner in the field of technical and humanitarian cooperation.

The clarity, confidence and balance with which India presented its point of view at the BRICS 2025 summit not only protects national interests but also strengthens India’s participation in global leadership. This visit of Prime Minister Modi shows that India is now emerging as a decisive power, not just a spectator on global forums.
